PEOPLE BUILD THEIR OWN HOUSE, NIEUWKOOP
The ‘Meijepark’ and the ‘Zuidhoek’ are both part of the small-scale landscape surrounding the lakes around Nieuwkoop. A significant effort is made to connect the new plan with the beautiful surroundings.
This is expressed in the use of local trees and plants and creating views through the plan to the surrounding area. With the design of the lots is sought to create an informal environment that is consistent with the atmosphere in ‘Zuidhoek’.
Part of this strategy is that dwellings of different types are mixed in the plan. The short streets and different angles in the street pattern also underline the informal setup. The design for the ‘Meijepark’ and the ‘Zuidhoek’ is strongly based on the existing base of the underlying peat landscape, also the existing water structure is respected in the new plan.
The form and quality of architecture in this plan plays an important role in the experience of space. Spatial quality adds to the value of the area for residents, users and passers-by. In a plan in which more than half of the homes will be developed privately, the quality monitoring is very important. We aim towards a cohesive, contemporary image with a certain individuality. The consistency is achieved by developing themes which appear in all homes but in different forms. The contemporaneity is achieved by applying modern materials and techniques, a contemporary formal language and by the strong integration of sustainability, which has implications for the architecture. The individuality is achieved by combining the location-based features of living by the Lake, nature, the village atmosphere and the holiday feeling.
