A super­mar­ket and sev­eral homes have been replaced and com­bined into one build­ing on the edge of the vil­lage cen­ter, beside the Twellose Beek. This has cre­ated one large build­ing between the vil­lage cen­ter and green­ery, a build­ing that is in keep­ing with the envi­ron­ment and cre­ates a lot of open space.

Clear park­ing and shop­ping logis­tics, cov­ered load­ing and unload­ing of trucks, good con­nec­tions with the vil­lage, clear entrance to the homes, a ground floor level that is as lively as pos­si­ble and not too impos­ing. These were the most impor­tant start­ing points.

Linked to Twello’s shop­ping area, the super­mar­ket has an entrance from the car park to the south, a load­ing dock to the west and open cor­ners on the north and east. 37 homes were con­structed on top of the super­mar­ket in 4 dif­fer­ent blocks. Brick­work of var­ied types and col­ors strength­ens the sub­di­vi­sion into smaller blocks; enabling this sub­stan­tial con­struc­tion to match Twello’s scale.

The homes are located around a rooftop car park, with a car lift to trans­port cars to the top. Acces­si­ble via gal­leries around this roof, the homes them­selves are con­tem­po­rary and spa­cious, with large bal­conies. Cur­rently made suit­able for senior cit­i­zens, these homes’ easy access and flex­i­bil­ity can also accom­mo­date other groups in the future. A mul­ti­plic­ity of sus­tain­abil­ity mea­sures, includ­ing a large area of pho­to­voltaic cells (PV cells), guar­an­tee low energy consumption.
