ENERGY NEUTRAL IN GEERPARK, VLIJMEN
Geerpark is a new neighbourhood in Vlijmen. The city, the corporation, the province and the waterdistrict have formulated high sustainable ambitions to make Geerpark the most sustainable neighborhood in the Netherlands. The neighborhood will be all-electric and all homes will be energy neutral. The plan belongs to one of the 13 ‘excellent area’s’ designated by the ministry.
Geerpark is being developed on the location of a former seed business ‘Mommersteeg’. The old Mommersteeg office is monumental and will be redeveloped and social center. The connection between this center and the planned development is a high density area that is being shaped by FARO.
The plan will have a central square, where all services will come together. Here is also the renovated Mommersteeg building and two buildings for assisted living and small parking garages. The square is connected to the main slow moving traffic artery in Geerpark.
The plan also conforms to the immediate surroundings of Geerpark. All buildings will have pitched roofs, facing south to accommodate PV panels or solar collectors. To break up the monotony of this, some blocks will be turned despite of the fact that these will not have the optimum energy efficiency.
In reference to the existing agro-industrial feeling, the buildings will be designed as sturdy ‘‘residential barns’’ with plenty of room for sustainable measures.
