The dis­carded church at the Hooft­straat in Alphen aan den Rijn had not been in use as a church for almost 40 years. By trans­form­ing the church into an extra­or­di­nary extended-​family home the build­ing has been restored in order to remain a tac­tile mem­ory of the past.

OLD SHED BECAME TRENDY OFFICE, LISSERBROEK

40.000 fruit trees are sur­round­ing the premises of FARO. Work is been done among apples and pears, in the mag­nif­i­cent rural set­ting the office moved to from Delft in 1997. The for­mer potato shed from 1930 was refur­bished as a state-​of-​the-​art work­shop cum office, though retain­ing its orig­i­nal char­ac­ter and identity.

BRICK ARCH­WAYS CON­NECT LOCAL SHOPS, DEVENTER

FARO has ren­o­vated the shop­ping cen­ter in Borgele, a post-​war dis­trict in Deven­ter. The project involved both ren­o­vat­ing part of the exist­ing shop­ping cen­ter as well as con­struct­ing new shops with 20 apart­ments above and 24 low-​rise homes. A plan was also made for the design of the whole area.
